The Defence Forces has refused to comment on reports that a soldier stationed at Custume barracks tested positive for Covid last week.
The Irish Independent is reporting that 27 members of the Defence Forces based in Athlone were told to self-isolate after the test was confirmed.
They claim that a member returned to work, and then subsequently tested positive for Covid.
The air ambulance service which serves the wider Shannonside Northern sound region is based at Custume barracks, but it is unclear if this was affected by the incident.
Responding to a query from Shannonside Northern Sound, a Defence Forces spokesperson said it does not comment on individual cases and continues to strictly adhere to all HSE & Government Covid-19 guidelines.
