Plans by Leitrim County Council to close off part of Main Street in the town this weekend have been put on hold.
The council announced earlier this month that it intended to put a six month pilot project in place from this evening which would have seen part of the main street closed off each weekend from 6 o' clock on Fridays, until 8 o' clock on Monday morning.
The council conducted an online survey in May and said that submissions received showed a good appetite for the idea.
Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce put a submission to the local authority last week asking that the street section be closed off each weekday evening, and remain open on Saturdays.
They also said they were concerned that the street not be closed off before the area at St Georges Terrace was ready for re-opening so as to create some leeway for traffic flow in that part of town.
The plans have also caused disquiet among some individual traders who say they are not happy with the ideas of the weekend closures at all.
A statement from Leitrim Council this week says it has not concluded its considerations on the project and the road closure will not take place this weekend.
The council says it will advertise the outcome of the process in due course.
