The delayed re-opening of Ballaghadereen library is totally unacceptable.
That's according to Sinn Fein Deputy Claire Kerrane who says the essential service is an immense loss to the town.
The library closed at the start of the pandemic and the protected structure now requires necessary building works which went through the planning process in 2020.
However, Deputy Kerrane received confirmation from the Minister that a conservation expert from the Council must now inspect the building with works not expected to commence until the end of the year.
Speaking to Shannonside FM, the Roscommon TD believes the snail's pace action on the project has delayed the opening for another year with services unlikey to resume until works are fully complete.
''The impression I've got from Roscommon county council or from the Minister, is that there isn't any possibility of an opening in the interim. But I think that's now why we need to see, you know, get the advice and then the work should begin immediately after that advice is sought. And I don't see why those works can't begin in this quarter of this year and move that reopening dateforward because, like the reopening was due in July 2021, and now the date is a year later. That's just not good enough.''
