The delay to legislation on the decriminalisation of cannabis will see thousands of lives unfairly affected according to a local MEP.
Midlands Northwest MEP Luke 'Ming' Flanagan has been reacting to yesterday's deferment of a People Before Profit Bill to decriminalise cannabis for personal use.
The Dáil debated the bill yesterday, but the government said it needs to assess last week's Citizen's Assembly report.
Opposition TDs say it's a necessity to ensure a public health-led approach to drugs for personal use, and that it shouldn't be an issue for the courts.
The Roscommon native and MEP, who was in the public gallery at the Dáil for yesterdays debate, has urged the government to reconsider the move.
Speaking to Let's Talk today, 'Ming' Flanagan says the decriminalisation of cannabis will allow regulation of the drug and reduce the risk to those who use it.
