A Ballymahon auctioneer says there promises to be good demand for a new housing estate on the outskirts of the town which has been granted conditional planning permission.
The 82 houses, apartments and creche are set to be built on an 11 acre site on the Moigh road just outside Ballymahon town, and one of the main conditions of the project is that the developers put their own waste water treatment plant.
Planning permission had been granted but subsequently expired for the site several years ago.
A Northern Ireland construction firm bought the land and resubmitted plans for the development which has now been given the go-ahead by Longford council.
A large number of submissions from residents in the area had opposed the scheme and they now have a four week time frame to lodge any appeal against the decision with An Bord Pleanala.
Local auctioneer James O' Meara says the development will help the local housing market..
