The department is shutting several centres because of the state’s new policy of only offering refugees 90 days’ accommodation, and an increasing number of vacancies.

The Department of Integration is refusing to delay the sudden closure of a refugee centre in Drumshanbo. The Lough Allen Hotel has accommodated around 170 Ukrainians for over two years, but they’ve been told to leave by the end of this month. The department is shutting several centres because of the state’s new policy of only offering refugees 90 days’ accommodation, and an increasing number of vacancies.

Fine Gael councillor Enda McGloin asked the department to keep the Drumshanbo centre until the end of June, as many of the refugees work or go to school in the area. The department has rejected the request, which Councillor McGloin says is regrettable:
