Cross country transport services passing through the region are in desperate need of upgrades according to a local TD.
Sligo/Leitrim TD Frank Feighan made the call in the Dáil this week, for services on the Sligo/Connolly rail route to be improved.
The service coverts Leitrim, Longford and Westmeath locally and is heavily used by commuters.
The Fine Gael Deputy highlighted the challenges facing improvement of the service as the route is a single rails track, with trains forced to use passing points at multiple times during the trip.
Deputy Feighan is calling on the Department of Transport to investigate ways in which services can see travel times decreased and more services on the line daily.
