Members of the National Advocacy Service are staging a protest at the Taoiseach's constituency office in Wicklow and Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphries' offices in Monaghan today, with protests planned in Roscommon Town Tomorrow.

Sligo Leitrim TD Marian Harkin asked Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to have a open and honest debate about concerns in local communities regarding immigration.

In a press statement, the TD highlighted that counties like Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo Donegal and Mayo have the oldest population nationwide, but lack sufficient nursing home spaces.

The politician revealed that a total of 3,926 people were waiting for a bed in Sligo University Hospital in the first six months of this year.

The motion was also supported by deputies Thomas Pringle, Joan Collins, Michael McNamara, and Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice.
