The development of a new unit at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon has moved a step closer.
The design plan for a new 50 bed wing has now been completed with planning permission expected to be submitted before the end of the year.
According to local councillor Valerie Byrne, the new plan will see Our Lady's and St Joseph's wards gradually demolished to allow for the new work.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Councillor Byrne hopes to see shovels in the ground by the end of next year.
