A Roscommon man who died in a double drowning tragedy in Kerry this week is being remembered as a kind man who dedicated his life to helping others.
Desmond Byrne and his sister Muriel Eriksson died following an incident at Ballybunion beach on Thursday evening.
The father of two worked as a carpenter but was also heavily involved in supporting the activities of carers across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.
Roscommon Carers representative Bernie Dowling says Dessie was grateful for carers who assisted his partner Paula in caring for her mother in their home.
She remembers him as a kind man who was always very supportive of carers.
"Des took his sons swimming to the Hudson Bay swimming pool," recalled Bernie.
"He was such a family man and was very involved with Family Careres Ireland.
"He valued the service and often said thank you."
Meanwhile, Funeral Mass for Dessie and Muriel takes places on Tuesday morning at St John's Church in Lecarrow.
