New regulations around e-scooters will see a speed limit of 20 kilometres-per-hour, a requirement for lights and an age limit of 16.
Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers says those who don't comply with new electric scooter regulations, will be issued with a fixed charge notice.
The legislation has now gone to the European Commission for review, it must approve any changes before they can take effect.
Minister Chambers says the changes will be discussed in detail at a Road Safety Authority conference today.
