Disappointment mounts over Roscommon Town Post Office move

The historic building is hosts a significantly smaller work force today then in previous years according to one Councillor.

A local councillor and An Post employee says he understands the decision to move the postal service in Roscommon town. Fianna Fáil councillor Seán Moylan, an An Post manager in a different part of the county, said the current premises is now almost empty.

An Post confirmed this week that the service in Roscommon is set to move from its iconic premises on The Square. It was announced in January that Roscommon Post Office would become a contractor-run service.

Following backlash from local politicians and the public, however, An Post said they would seek to appoint a Postmaster to take over the current premises.

Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Moylan said it's a pity An Post would no longer operate out of the building:
