A representative of a firm set up to progress a sewerage scheme for hartley is expressing disappointment over the refusal of the Department to approve the project.
At a meeting of this month's Carrick-on-Shannon M.D. councillors heard the local scheme doesn't meet the affordability criteria and therefore is no longer possible.
In a statement, Leitrim county council say it's clear in a letter from the Minister that this scheme ''will not at any juncture be approved for funding and nothing more can be done. ''
Brian McGann says various works were carried out since a limited company was set up in 2017, with over 2,000 euro collected from each household to progress the project.
He feels frustrated over the refusal and believes a scheme is needed going forward:
"Half of the septic tanks do not meet the regulation today. What are they supposed to do, put in another septic tank, wait again for another seven years for someone to come up with another plan.
The scheme should be done, there is no percolation for septic tanks in Hartley or lots of Leitrim for that matter.
I would like to see something good come out of it, I would like to see it move on."
