A local member of the Travelling community says an RTÉ documentary laid bare the mental health difficulties faced by many young Travellers. The documentary, 'Patrick: A Young Traveller Lost', which was produced by Cavan man Alan Bradley, aired last night on RTÉ One. It was centred on the story of 12-year-old Patrick McDonagh from Finglas, Dublin, who took his own life last year after he was bullied.
The documentary follows Patrick's parents, Michelle and Pat, in the months after his death. It was well received by viewers with President Michael D Higgins calling for the programme to be shown in schools. Latisha McCrudden, a member of the local Travelling community. said the documentary highlights continued discrimination. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Latisha said teaching hatred against Travellers costs lives:
