Dog owners are being warned of the dangers of ice on ponds or lakes this year following a community rescue effort in Leitrim in recent days.
Passers-by who were walking their dog at a lake in Dromahair on Tuesday of this week saw two dogs falling into the freezing water after the ice they were on broke underneath their weight.
They put an appeal out on Facebook for anyone who might have a boat to come to the scene to help and a large number of people went to help in the rescue effort.
Water Safety Ireland has also warned about pet owners getting into trouble when they try to rescue their pets from water at this time of year.
