Domestic tourism in the Shannonside Region saw a major jump last year.
There was a strong local recovery in travel from Irish residents following the pandemic, where a number of Covid restrictions and lockdowns were still in place in 2021.
People across Ireland visited the Shannonside region for a day or overnight trip over 800,000 in 2022.
Figures from the CSO show 838,000 trips were made to Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim and Cavan across the year.
That's compared to over 438,000 trips the previous year.
Cavan and Leitrim recorded the most visits according to the CSO, with 465,000 trips made in 12 months.
Visitors spent 935,000 nights in the counties , with the average trip lasting three nights.
In Roscommon and Longford, domestic tourism saw 373,000 trips locally in 2022, with tourists spending over a million nights in the region on their trips.
Nationally, 13.3 million domestic overnight trips were taken last year, amounting to 2.9 billion euro in expenditure.
