The doubling of the Housing Assistance Payment single rate will greatly help those applying for the scheme in County Roscommon.
That's according to Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien who was on a visit to Carrick-on-Shannon today.
According to a recent study compiled by Labour Senator Rebecca Moynihan, Roscommon have no one-bedroom properties available for rent that would be suitable for one person to live in.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Minister O'Brien acknowledged there was a lack of a supply locally and but hopes the new measure which comes into effect next month will be of benefit.
