Rising costs are one of the key factors for a dramatic decline in the number of pubs across the Shannonside region according to a Roscommon publican.
New figures show over 1800 have shut their doors since 2005.
In the Shannonside region. 29 pubs closed their doors in longford, 37 in Leitrim and 72 in County Roscommon.
Publicans are looking for the government to take action in the budget to support them.

He feels Covid and the recession played their part in closures- but increased costs are also a key factor
''All costs have soared since business reopened after Covid-19 and you see the problem is with the high levels of excise that we have in Ireland some of the smaller pubs are no longer financially viable.''
