Over 7,700 (7,733) women in counties Leitrim and Roscommon were called for Breast Check screening in 2018 and 2019.
However, less than 100 were called from the two counties in 2020, according to new figures from the National Screening Service.
According to figures provided to the latest HSE West Regional Health forum, 2,448 women from Leitrim were called for Breastcheck screening in 2018, and 119 in 2019.
3,039 women from Roscommon were provided with an appointment in 2018 and 2,127 in 2019.
Screening was paused on March 16 this year and resumed on October 27 and Breastcheck says that approximately 150,000 screening invitations were paused during this period.
Less than 50 women called from each county for the service this year.
Breastcheck says that owing to the pause in screening and ongoing Covid-19 preventative measures, it may longer to complete the current round but that screening will still be within European norms and Ireland is fortunate to have a two-year interval compared to Britain which has a three-yearly cycle.
Fiona Murphy, Chief Executive of the National Screening Service says that it is actively recruiting staff and looking at other ways to maximise capacity and she is urging all people to be aware of symptoms and not to wait for screening, but to contact their GP if they have any concerns.
