Drop in number of Gardaí in Shannonside region

There was a decrease in the number of Gardaí staffed across the Shannonside Northern Sound region last year. In 2023, there were 1,253 Gardaí working in the region down 32 on the previous year's figures. The Sligo/Leitrim Garda division saw the largest decrease with 15 fewer Gardaí staffed in 2023 compared to 2022.

Meanwhile, the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Garda Division's numbers fell by 14 last year. The Cavan/Monaghan Garda division saw the lowest decrease in 2023 with just 3 fewer than the previous year. Nationally, there was an overall percentage decrease of approximately 1 per cent in 2023.
