People in south Leitrim are being reassured that there is no need to be anxious ahead of the opening a three-day pop-up Covid test centre in Drumshanbo.
Swabbing of anyone over the age of 16, and who are asymptomatic is due to get underway this lunchtime, with the centre open today until 7pm, and will operate from 10-6 on Saturday and Sunday at the Mayflower Community centre.
The Vocational School closed at 12pm today after it was confirmed that six cases of Covid have been discovered among the school population - and all third years will be tested as precaution.
Earlier this week Fifth and Sixth years in the school were directed to stay at home after an outbreak in the school while the HSE has linked other Covid cases to social events which occurred in the town earlier this month.
Fine Gael Councillor Enda McGloin says everyone should get tested for their own peace of mind :
Elsewhere a primary school in South Leitrim has confirmed that one pupil has tested positive for Covid in recent days and a class group is now isolating as result.
The school remains open after the positive test was confirmed earlier this week - with the 25-strong class now learning from home.
A school spokesperson has confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound that the decision to remove the pupils was done in conjunction with public health advice and that there are now other Covid-related issues reported at the school at present.
