Over €1.2million euro was spent on providing food to inmates at Castlerea prison in the last two years.
New figures published by the Irish Prison Service show food costs in in the jail topped over €670,000 in 2020 - and between January and November last year, over €590,000 was spent on food for prisoners at the west Roscommon facility.
The cost of providing toiletries also increased significantly in the last two years with €29,003 spent in 2020 and €41,289 on toiletries
The IPS was unable to provide details of the costs related to providing hand sanitiser tor disinfectant wipers to prisoners.
