€1.6 million has been earmarked for community centres across the region. The funding was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Dara Calleary. The money will facilitate the refurbishment and enhancement of community centres and buildings across the region. Centres across Co. Roscommon are to receive a total of €691,908 in funding. Among the centres that will benefit from the investment are St. Joseph's Hall in Boyle, Roscommon Gaels GAA club, and Ballinagare Health & Leisure Centre where €100,000 will be going towards insulation and solar panels.
Meanwhile €428,000 has been secured for centres across Co. Longford. Seven centres are to receive the funding. Among these is Longford Rugby Club, which is receiving the most money in the county at €100,000. While €491,000 in grants has been allocated to centres and buildings in Co. Leitrim. Drumshanbo Parish Community Centre is set to receive €100,000 out of the funding, while €66,780 has been earmarked for renovation works at Kilmore Cathedral. In total, €26 million has been allocated to support the refurbishment of community centres across the country.
