The number of people visiting sites owned by the Office of Public Works in the Shannonside region is continuing to increase
Over €100,000 in revenue was generated from entrance fees last year alone. OPW sites across the Shannonside region welcomed over 34 thousand visitors in 2021.
The latest figures show that 15,900 people visited Parke's Castle in Co.Leitrim, which generated nearly €80,000 in revenue, the most in the region. Corlea Trackway in Longford saw an increase from 8,500 visitors in 2019 to 10,200 in 2021.Boyle Abbey welcomed 8,300 people to the site, generating just under €25,000 in ticket sales. On average, OPW sites in the region generated over €100,000 from admission tickets.
St. Stephen's Green was the most visited site in the country, with over 2.7 million people passing through the gates.
Nationally, nearly 13 million people visited sites run by the OPW in 2021, equating to just over 7 million euro
