Spending on hotel and guest-house accommodation to cope with the coronavirus pandemic is costing the State millions of euro.

Almost €87,000 has been spent on accommodation in Cavan and Monaghan, while €3,200 has been spent across the Shannonside region.

As of the 15th of July, rooms in five hotels and guesthouses across the Shannonside Northern Sound region were booked by the State during the covid-19 pandemic.

Some of the rooms were to be used as self-isolation facilities, while others were used by healthcare staff.

Accommodation at the Hatch Bar and B&B in Ballinagh, Cavan, was booked at a cost of €11,812.

Hotel rooms were also provided in the Creigton Hotel in Clones, at a cost of €53, 718, while €21,280 was spent on self-catering homes in Castle Leslie.

The amount of money spent on accommodation across the Shannonside region, where demand was lower, pales in comparison to this.

Accommodation at the Courtyard Apartments in Carrick-on-Shannon was provided at a cost of €560 to the State, while €2,648 was spent on rooms in Gleeson's Hotel in Roscommon.

The biggest payment went to the Kinglsey Hotel in Cork, which received just under €300,000, while the Maldron Hotel on Parnell Street in Dublin has been paid just over €292,000.
