Funding of just under 700-thousand euro has been announced for the Shannonside Northern Sound region under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
It’s the third tranche of Covid funding to help towns and villages adapt the Covid-19 pandemic and 24 projects across the region are set to benefit from it.
The funding was announced by Minister Heather Humphreys, who says the “scheme is more important than ever to address the challenges that COVID-19 has brought”.
In the Shannonside region, Roscommon will gain the most and receives just under 179-thousand euro towards six outdoor projects across the county, including an outdoor cinema system in Ballyforan.
Ballaghaderreen Web-based marketing, marquee for outdoor events and provision of Christmas Lights €39,960.00

Almost 117-thousand euro will go to four projects across Longford, with 35-thousand euro going towards the provision of lighting and seating along a newly developed forest walk in Ballinalee.

Elsewhere, Leitrim will receive just over 55-thouand euro for three projects, including 22-thousand, 500 euro for the provision of a 200 metre footpath to connect Battlebridge to Leitrim Village.
Tullaghan Provision of overhead, outdoor cover at the Tennis courts to facilitate various events, including farmer’s market, and seating, lights and bike racks. €21,600.00
Leitrim Village The provision of a 200 metre footpath to connect Battlebridge to Leitrim Village. €22,500.00
Glenfarne Landscaping areas adjacent to the Rainbow Ballroom and installing sheltered bicycle stands, picnic benches and fencing. €11,341.80
