Roscommon County Council has described a four million euro investment in a new library for Boyle as strengthening the cultural and economic development of the town.
The new community facility will be built at the rear of the Royal Hotel site and will face out onto the river walk, in the King House Cultural Quarter.
Part eight planning for the project was approved earlier this year and it's hoped that the project will go to tender shortly, with construction likely to begin in the second quarter of 2023.
The Council claims the project will tie in with existing large-scale Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) investment in the town, on foot of Boyle 2040 with a major streetscape enhancement programme also due to begin next year.
Brian Nerney is chairman of the local town team in Boyle. He feels the town is finally set to reap the benefits of significant investment.
''There's upwards of 11 million euro that has come in and I know the public may turn around and say, well, where's that money going? That money is there, covid and trying to get hold of contractors has posed a problem for a lot of the work But the Royal has happened the cycle path has happened. The public realm work on the town center and at the rear of Main Street is imminent, I understand that's to start at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. And all these things will come on stream, we have the funding it's just to get the people in place to do the work now, and it'll see the transformation of the town center of Boyle for the better.''
