Ireland's first all electric town bus fleet will be launched in Athlone this morning.
The vehicles, operated by Bus Eireann, will enter service in the town following the official ceremony today.
The Athlone Bus depot recently under went significant works to upgrade facilities to allow the charging and maintenance of the buses.
The new service will reduce emissions by 400,000 kg annually, with the vehicles expected to be introduced into regional passenger services in the near future.
Transport and Environment Minister Eamon Ryan will officially launch the new buses later this morning.
