Almost 5,000 homes and businesses in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon are still without power.

The Independent TD was elected on the first day of the 34th Dail.

Fianna Fail has 48 seats in the next Dail, followed by Sinn Fein on 39, and Fine Gael on 38.

It seemed Marian Harkin had a mountain to climb to take the fourth and final seat after the first count.

Fianna Fáil's Eamon Scanlon and Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny are on course to take seats, according to this poll. 

There are 16 declared candidates so far – four in Leitrim and 12 in Sligo.

The 70-year-old, from Ballymote, is running alongside Sligo councillor Edel McSharry in a two-candidate strategy in the constituency.

The former TD and Senator was added this past week to run alongside McSharry in a two-candidate strategy in Sligo-Leitrim.
