A special Eco Showboat will dock at Boyle Marina today, Sunday, as part of a fourth month voyage from Limerick to Enniskillen.
The boat which is called the 'Mayfly' is the brainchild of artists Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly who have had it transformed from a century old heritage barge into a zero-carbon vessel powered by solar panels.
The aim of the project is to spark a countrywide artistic response to climate change and the boat's arrival at Boyle marina will coincide with the end of the Arts Festival in the town.
Anne Cleary says various people will perform on Sunday on the theme of water and the climate…
"We have Fr. Cunningham who will be talking to the Shannon Cavers Group about the origin of the Shannon River and a poet called Mary Turley McGrath, from Roscommon, who will be reading poetry about water as well, waterscapes and water lines, and a marine biologist doing a kick sample. So we have lots and lots of workshops in our umbrella dome related to water quality on the 24th of July. And then following that, on the 31st of July, on Lough Doon shore and Lough Key, our afternoon is all about the 'Mayfly'."
