Co. Longford's second largest town is one step closer to obtaining a new state-of-the-art primary care centre. The development of a dedicated healthcare facility in Edgeworthstown has been the ambition for local politicians for years. Capacity concerns surrounding the town's waste and water treatment momentarily paused progress in 2022. Since then, Uisce Éireann announced plans to upgrade its wastewater treatment plants in Ballymahon and Edgeworthstown.
Local TD Micheál Carrigy has today confirmed that a preferred bidder has now been appointed for the development of the primary care centre and that it is currently in the design phase. The HSE is aiming to lodge a planning application in early 2025. The Longford TD welcomed the announcement, calling it a 'vital' project for Edgeworthstown and surrounding areas, which he said will ensure improved access to essential healthcare services.
