A bid to rename the Carriglass roundabout in Longford has been rejected by the Naming Committee
The issue was raised again at the most recent meeting of the Longford Municipal District.
The motion, originally submitted by Councillor Gerry Hagan, requested the the roundabout to be renamed after Tom Reddington, who was shot near the site during the Irish Civil War.
A council spokesperson informed the members that the naming committee had deemed the roundabout to be not major enough to warrant a name.
He said that consideration could be given to a larger piece of infrastructure.
In his response, Cllr Hagan, pointed out that he did not agree with the decision and that he would continue to raise the issue at future meetings
