Sligo Cllr Nessa Cosgrove was confirmed as the Labour Party Candidate in the constituency for the next General Election last night.

She was selected as the party's candidate at their selection convention last night in Sligo.

Fine Gael hasn't had a TD elected in Roscommon since the county's accident and emergency unit was closed in 2011.

The party are running a candidate in the Longford Westmeath and Sligo Leitrim constituencies.

Fine Gael have failed to win a seat in the constituency since the 2011 General Election.

The sitting TD was the only name on the list after Councillor Martin Monaghan withdrew his name following his nomination.

The local election count in Longford took place over three days at St Mary's Community Centre in Edgeworthstown.

The Standards in Public Office Commission is investigating the issue and a hearing was held last month.
