Electric cars account for almost 10% of new cars registered in the Shannonside region.
The latest figures published by the Society for the Irish Motoring Industry show electric car sales across Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon increased from 2021 to 2022.
Of the 957 new cars registered in Roscommon up to September, 95 are electric. This compares to 43 cars out of 948 last year.
In 2021, 3% of new cars on the road in Leitrim were electric. This now stands at 10%. In Longford, new electric cars account for 8% of new cars, up from 6% in 2021.
Nationally, over 101,000 new cars have been sold this year, a drop from the pre-pandemic figure of 113,000 in 2019.
