Electricity from renewable sources accounted for over 40 percent of our total demand in September.
The majority of that came from windfarms, which accounted for almost 35 percent of all electricity used in the country.
The figures found that gas generation accounted for 44% of all electricity used in September, with just under 16% being imported via interconnection, 5.5% coming from coal, and the remaining 2% from other sources.
Currently the electricity grid can accommodate up to 75% of electricity from renewable sources at any one time.
Director of System Operations at EirGrid, Diarmaid Gillespie while solar generation was down from record highs during the summer, the September total was still higher than for any month last year, which signals he said the progress being made in connecting greater amounts of renewable energy to the national grid.
