The government is being accused of not exploring ways of cutting electricity costs for hard pressed householders in the current energy crisis.
That's according to Roscommon Galway Deputy Denis Naughten who says the rebate promised by government to help cope with rising electricity bills is nowhere near enough.
With Electric Ireland the latest company to announce a major price hike from the 1st of May, the Roscommon TD says the government needs to look at alternative ways of helping keep costs down.
He says he's already raised what he describes as the 'criminal practice' of Irish taxpayers subsiding the electricity going into data centres, and there's also the capacity to store natural gas off the Cork coast from the old Kinsale gas line.
