Emergency Services and Local Authority crews are being praised for their work in tackling the aftermath of yesterday's Tornado in Leitrim. Following the tornado hitting the village just after 12pm, Gardaí, ambulance crews, fire services and council work crews attended the scene and aided those impacted. Gas and power lines were assessed and secured by council workers, with debris and damaged vehicles removed from the main street of Leitrim Village yesterday evening.
A number of people are spending their second night in alternative accommodation provided by Leitrim County Council, due to ongoing safety assessments of the damaged buildings. The main R280 road and footpath through the village remain closed to the public until the local authority is satisfied surrounding structures are safe.
