Relief has been expressed that a boil water notice will not impact people's build up to Christmas in Longford.
Irish Water confirmed on Monday evening that following the completion of remedial works at the Lough Forbes Treatment Plant, there is no further need to boil water.
The notice was first issued at the beginning of November following concern over a cryptosporidium barrier at the treatment plant in Newtownforbes.
An EPA audit carried out in late November showed the water to be safe, but it still took almost two weeks for the notice to be lifted as works were carried out at the plant.
