Waterways Ireland says it will be the end of may before the lock gates in Tarmonbarry can re-open
Work began in late February on the River Shannon gates after issues were identified at the busy waterways. Engineers has expressed concerns that the gate could collapse into the lock after significant damage was noticed in recent months.
It was hoped the work would be completed by the end of April but Waterways Ireland has confirmed that due to increased work scope identified when the lock was dewatered , the repairs will not be completed until the 28th of May.
Passage through Tarmonbarry lock will not be possible during this period and an alternative route via the Camlin River is available. Masters of vessels are advised to check their air draft prior to undertaking the passage on the Camlin River due to the low bridge on the N5 road.
