The Minister for the Environment claims that he is satisfied that adequate fire cover is provided by adjacent regions to Castlerea despite the permanent closure of the town's station.
Eamon Ryan was responding to concerns raised by TD's Michael Fitzmaurice and Claire Kerrane last night under Topical issues in the Dail.
The Minster outlined that grievance, disciplinary and mediation efforts to resolve industrial issues failed and that engagement is to now begin with the six retained firefighters who were based in Castlerea.
The Minister did confirm that he will bring the risks and concerns raised by the TDs to Minister O'Brien and understands concerns that "until something happens all is well".
Deputy Fitzmaurice urged the Minister to help local groups re-establish a fire service in the region :
