The Minister for Transport and the Environment will visit Longford today to officially launch the EU Just Transition fund.
The programme was created to support regions throughout Europe who are experiencing the negative impacts from the change, or transition, away from fossil fuel-intensive industries.
It's been focused on the Shannonside Region due to the presence of peat burning powerstations such as the Lough Ree and the Shannonbridge plants.
Green Party leader and Environment Minister Eamonn Ryan, along with a number of other Government Ministers and a representative from the EU Commission will officially launch the 2021 to 2027 Just Transition Fund later this morning at the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre in kenagh.
Minister Ryan will later address a meeting of Longford County Council, with local representatives set to discuss a range of issues with the Green Leader.
