The Minister for the Environment has not ruled out the future use of power stations in Lanesboro or in Shannonbridge. The West Offaly Power Station

The Minister for the Environment has not ruled out the future use of power stations in Lanesboro or in Shannonbridge.

The West Offaly Power Station will be disconnected from the national grid this afternoon. 

Its sister plant in Lanesboro is being shut down this day next week -- ending five decades of turf power.

Bord na Mona has received an investment of over 108 million to progress its work in rewetting the bogs and green initiatives.

However, there is concern that the ESB plans to demolish the power stations are premature until all other options are fully exhausted.
