An environmental group has rejected claims by a local county council that their legal actions are the reason flood relief works at a Roscommon turlough can't be completed. Roscommon County Council issued a statement earlier this month raising concerns that current flood defence measures at Lough Funshinagh will soon be ineffective. Responding to the claims, FIE Director Tony Lowes, said the organisation stood in solidarity with communities in areas such as Lough Funshinagh who are impacted by climate change.
The FIE statement concluded by saying that it is unacceptable for a public authority to seek to blame the organisation for upholding the law of the land. Speaking to Shannonside News, Mr Lowes said the council's decision to change track forced FIE to take action:
