The ESB has confirmed it's continuing with planned outages in Leitrim today despite sub-zero temperatures.
Some residents have raised concerns over the loss of supply which would impact on heating and the ability to cook food during the cold snap.
However in a statement to Shannonside FM ESB say the planned outage in Ballinamore is for essential maintenance - ESB Networks have deployed additional resources in this case, meaning the outage commenced at the later time of 11 am, with the expectation that power will be restored at around 4pm. ESB Networks apologises to all customers impacted by this outage.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning a local mother said she believes the works should have been postponed.
"The fact that this is the coldest week in 12 years and I've only received 24 hours noticed of this power outage, and I rang and I did explain. It's definitely going ahead despite the weather warnings, there's ads on the radio saying how to look after yourself in the sub-zero temperatures, yet they're still continuing despite this".
