The ESB has confirmed that the rate of flow on the Shannon remains low - and there are no immediate plans to bring the Lough Ree power station in Lanesboro back on line.

It is exactly two months since the Longford facility shut down due to what the ESB described as concerns over the temperature of the water close to the plant.

in a statement to Shannonside Northernsound, the utility claims that they continue to monitor the situation and the power station will return to service as soon as possible.

The plant shut last year between mid July and mid September due to similar concerns over the temperature of the River Shannon - while it is due to close permanently by December.
