The ESB says problem forestry areas are to blame for power faults in the Rooskey area of Roscommon. Almost 80 premises there were left without power last weekend following Storm Kathleen. It was the ninth such outage in recent months, believed to be caused by fallen trees in the area. The ESB says it's working with landowners to rectify the issue ahead of a public meeting in Rooskey on Thursday night.
The ESB did confirm its network in Rooskey has been experiencing issues over the past few months. They say its due to the most recent three named storms which have caused significant damage to local forestry corridors. In a statement to Shannnonside News, the ESB said its teams have been proactively engaging with forestry owners to rectify these issues. Work has commenced on removing trees and widening a forestry corridor at Knockhal following Storm Kathleen last weekend. However, following the storm, new forestry locations have started creating problems for customers in the area, who had not previously been impacted by faults. ESB Networks say forestry owners have been contacted and trees will be cleared - but the works could take several weeks. The completion of this work will require a number of planned outages but the ESB says all affected customers will be notified well in advance. The company says it wishes to acknowledge the obvious inconvenience to customers and thanked them for their understanding and perseverance.
