The ESB is welcoming the decision by Longford County Council to facilitate the redevelopment of Lough Ree Power Station.
The ESB applied for permission to demolish the Lanesboro plant and replace it on site with a battery energy storage system, county planners gave the greenlight for the project last week.
In a statement to shannonside FM the ESB say they plan to use cutting-edge technologies at the site to provide electricity grid services that will facilitate renewable electricity on Ireland’s grid and, in turn, help the country achieve its climate goals in the coming decades.
ESB is fully focused on delivering a five-fold increase in renewable electricity generation by 2030 in line with its Net Zero by 2040 strategy.
