Sitting Fianna Fail Senator Eugene Murphy has confirmed he will contest the General Election in Roscommon Galway as an Independent Candidate.
The former TD lost his seat in 2020 and put himself forward at the party selection convention last month seeking to regain his seat.
However, Ballygar GP Martin Daly was selected by party members at the convention with the Constituency Committee deciding on a one candidate strategy for Roscommon Galway.
Speaking last week, Party Leader and Tanáiste Micheal Martin refused to commit to supporting the Scramoge man for another run in Seanad Eireann.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Senator Murphy confirmed he will now run as an independent candidate.
