Public consultation on the Athlone to Galway Greenway has been extended until next month.
The trail will take in Bord na Mona lands, as well as areas owned by Coillte, and around 25% of it is likely to run through private land.
Project management has stated that the use of public land has been prioritised in the route selection so as to affect private landowners as little as possible.
The preferred route for the section between Athlone and Galway was published in recent weeks and will see the track running around 180 kilometres in total through Westmeath, Roscommon and Galway.
Members of the public now have until the 28th of February to make their contribution to the project.
