The OPW has added an additional crew of workers in an effort to speed up emergency relief works at a flooded lake in south Roscommon.
Works are continuing in the Rahara area to drain water away from Lough Funshinagh with the Council hopeful of having the work completed in the coming weeks.
Senior Council director Caitlin Connelly told the November meeting of the Athlone Municipal district today that works were being undertaken "as fast as possible" subject to weather and ground conditions.
She also explained that the Council was anxious to get emergency works completed as soon as possible before weather impacts the area.
Her comments came after a letter received by the M.D from the Department of Agriculture was criticized by elected members for not addressing issues raised by Councillors in regards to the impact the flooding has had on local farmers.
The letter stated that any farmers who had sheep fencing damaged can apply for Tams funding but there is no plan in place at present to assist farmers to re-seed land currently flooded.
